THE THREE-BORDER REGION
Giant rock formations – impressively rising up high and lying on the edge of mount Dreisessel. In those moments, when we stroll through our garden with a careful eye and look out across the mountain, we can sense the power of the stones. High up, on the peak of Dreisessel, you’ll find a net of scenic hiking trails of varying lengths and difficulties. Up there, you’ll also find the “Dreiländereck” (border triangle D-A-CZ). Along the upper edge of the slope, a more demanding route leads you through the “Steinernes Meer” (lit. sea of stones).

Da oben ist auch das Dreiländereck. Und am Hang
führt eine etwas anspruchsvollere Strecke durchs
Steinerne Meer.

The forest

Endless forests, mighty ridges alternating with gently rolling hills, small tarns, and a cloak of mist settling over the scenery in the twilight hours. Here you’ll find the largest woodland in Central Europe – and certainly the most impressive one: the Bavarian Forest/Šumava National Park. Covering a surface of roughly 6,000 square kilometres, it spreads across Danube, Bohemia and the Austrian border. Here, you can experience unspoilt nature with crystal-clear streams and lakes, in the cleanest air measured in Germany. And here you can stroll through the last preserved patch of virgin forest in Germany – completely untouched by man – one of Europe’s largest nature reserves. The Centre for Nordic Skiing in Jägerbild is the ideal starting point for cross-country ski tours and winter hikes in and around Breitenberg. Discover new heights and try the high rope course in nearby Waldkirchen.In Ulrichsberg/Seitelschlag, you can take on a playful challenge on the 27-hole golf course at Golfpark Böhmerwald. Enjoy a thrilling tree-top walk in Neuschönau. And don’t miss to visit Lipno water reservoir (Vltava river) in the Czech Republic, it’s definitely well worth exploring.

Als besondere Attraktion der bayerischen
Museumslandschaft: Das Auswanderermuseum
„Born in Schiefweg“ erzählt die Geschichte der
Auswanderung aus dem Bayer- und Böhmerwald
nach Amerika.
Das Stadttheater Passau zeigt im Fürstbischöflichen
Opernhaus als Drei-Sparten-Haus alle Produktionen
des Niederbayerischen Landestheaters.
Das Scharfrichterhaus in Passau ist seit 1979 ein
Fixpunkt der Kultur- und Kabarettszene.
Die Europäischen Wochen Passau laden bereits
im April zum Osterbarock nach Passau, bevor im
Juni das Sommerfestival die ganze Region belebt.
Unser Ort, Breitenberg, hat ein Webereimuseum.
Nicht weit weg, in Tittling und Finsterau, sind zwei
hervorragende (und sehr hübsche) Freilichtmuseen,
um die bäuerlichen Lebensweisen im Bayerischen Wald
kennen zu lernen.
In Hauzenberg wird Granit abgebaut.
